What to watch?

As parents we are concerned about what our children see at the theatre. The best way to make sure that you take your kids to the “right” movie is to find out about it, before you take the family. We have put together a few webpages that may help you in making an informed decision about what movies you take you family to here in the Shreveport/Bossier area. Remember, just because a critic says it’s “A Great Family Film”, doesn’t mean it’s for your family. Do your homework and have a great time at the movies.



Kids-in-Mind

With kids-in-mind, this site summarizes a movie's appropriateness with three numerical ratings (ranging from 1 to 10) for Sex, Violence and Profanity. For example, "Artificial Intelligence" was awarded a 3.5.2 which translates to a 3 for Sex, 5 for Violence and 2 for Profanity. Reasons for each rating are described in detail, and the review concludes with a short list of single-word discussion topics and a concluding message: " Life, whether mechanoid or humanoid, is not worth living without love."

Screen It

Screen It reviews are written by a husband and wife team who've been at this since 1996. Each movie is quantified (from Mild to Extreme) in fifteen areas of parental concern including a few unique ones such as Smoking and Jump Scenes (those surprises that make you jump out your seat.) In addition to the parental review, Screen It provides a critique of the film's artistic value on a separate page titled "Our Take," and links to the movie's user ratings at the Internet Movie Database (http://www.imdb.com) This one you have to pay a subscription fee, but we understand from people that it is worth the money. 

 

Fun, age-appropriate cinema in public spaces throughout Northwest Louisiana. In order to make attending the event possible for all area residents, admission to most events is free. Larger events (featuring giveaways, concessions, and more) are $1.00 admission. Their goal is to bring the magic of the movies to all areas of Shreveport-Bossier.
